Nawazuddin Siddiqui Talks About How OTT Saved ‘Good Cinema’, Reveals Why He did Heropanti 2

Nawazuddin Siddiqui is one of the most talented and versatile actors we have in the biz.

But off late, the renowned star of films like Gangs Of Wasseypur and Raman Raghav 2.0 has been experimenting a lot of with mainstream cinema, breaking the cliches of the tag of ‘serious actor’ that he had been given.

Case in point – his latest appearance in the very commercial – Heropanti 2, which stars Tiger Shroff in the lead, and sees Nawaz in a never-before-seen villainous avatar, causing havoc and disrupting the life of the hero of the film.

In a recent interaction with NDTV, the actor stated how he understands the impact of commercially viable and mass-appealing films like these, especially with the success of films like RRR and KGF2, and hopes his film too joins the ranks of these “multi-crore-earners”.

Nawaz did however point out that, it is strange how everyone starts speaking the language of whatever formula or film works at the box office for once. The actor sarcastically took a jibe, stating that suddenly everything about that film becomes good – the performance, the story, the direction – once it starts earning at the box office.

Nawaz also spoke on the subject of OTT, stating that it has given a new lease of life to films that did not necessarily find an audience in the theaters. Films like Raman Raghav 2.0 or Manto, that were created with a sense of cinematic art in mind, which can now find an audience in online platforms.

Speaking on some of recent favorites that he has watched on OTT platforms, Nawaz name-dropped films like – A Hero, Coda and King Richard – which are all international award-winning films.

Nawaz truly is as mesmerizing with his thoughts and opinions on the subject of cinema, as he is with his work.
