Bride Puts Sindoor In Groom’s ‘Maang’ For ‘Equality’, Twitter Says – ‘Yeh Thoda Zyada Ho Gaya Ab’

Time and again we have seen how the new generation of married or marrying couples are often bending age-old customs and traditions, giving these rituals a new twist to align with their individualistic value-systems.

From the groom touching the bride’s feet, in an example of “role-reversal”, to the bride redefining what it means to give ‘Kanyadaan’, couples – particularly in Hindu marriages, are often seen bending the rules, and posting about it on social media to send a message.

This time around, a couple went a few steps further during the wedding processions as they were seen doing a sort of ‘role reversal’ during the ‘Sindoor’ ceremony.

The bride named Phalasha posted video snippets from her wedding on her Instagram, in which she was seen applying sindoor in the maang of her husband.

Not only that, she made the groom’s parents do ‘Kunwardaan’, just like her parents did ‘Kanyadaan’ during their wedding ceremony.

The whole theatric was obviously not well-received by netizens, after Phalasha, who’s a gender and health systems researcher, posted about it on social media.

Several people called it an ‘attention-seeking’ theatric, and a hypocritical way of looking at the traditional marriage system, with many people suggesting that the couple should have just gone for ‘court-marriage’ if they had so many issues with the customs.
