Will Shaktimaan Give Us A ‘Captain America’ Level Superhero For The Big Screens? [First UPDATED Look]

Shaktimaan has set to receive a major upgrade from his Doordarshan image to a big-screen cinematic giant.

Sony Pictures India has taken it upon themselves to bring a new, revamped version of the 90’s television superhero, which was extremely popular among Indian households – particularly kids, back in the day.

While the character has been spoofed and parodied a lot over the years, Sony has given the superhero a new, edgy look – to lure a generation of Indian moviegoers obsessed with Marvel and DC superhero films.

The makers announced an upcoming big-screen film on the character, with a teaser and first-look of the new-era Shaktimaan – giving fans major Captain America/Avengers vibe.

So will Shaktimaan give Indian audiences their very own superhero?

We have previously had films like Krrish and RaOne attempting to bring that to the table, but they were massively panned by the critics and ended up turning into parodies of themselves, in time.

While Sony seems to ready to capitalize on the potential market in India, which has given Hollywood films like Avengers: Endgame and Spiderman: No Way Home major box office number, but pressure also lies on the writers and makers to not only bring something original to the table, but also be wary of not ending up with another caricature of the west, that is going to become a subject of ridicule among the suave new audiences.

We’ll wait and see how this one turns out…
