“I am fortunate I got to do more work with Lata ji than any other singer” – Udit Narayan

The great Lata Mangeshkar’s passing earlier this week has affected countless of her fans, music lovers and fellow musicians, who were touched by her journey here on earth.

The pioneer diva, who sung thousands of songs in various languages in her illustrious career that lasted more than 7 decades, inspired several singers to follow in her footsteps.

Singer Udit Narayan, who recorded several songs with the late diva, also expressed his grief in the passing of Indian music’s most iconic female voice. Udit also expressed bittersweet joy in the fact that he perhaps got the opportunity to record the most number of songs with Lata ji – even more than any other singer in the past.

Here’s what he was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times:

“Main apne aap ko bhagyashali samajhta hoon. Jitna kaam mujhe Lata ji ke saath mila, mujhe nahin lagta [mere time ke] kisi aur singer ko mila hoga. I guess I am the only one who sang over 200 songs with Lata ji. And all of them were superhit. I also shared the stage with her around eight times. She would say, ‘Udit, tumhari awaaz original hai.’ Lata Mangeshkar ji saying something like that was like Goddess Saraswati blessing me.”

Udit Narayan is not the only name from Indian music who has expressed grief over Lata Mangeshkar’s passing, earlier Sonu Nigam also called it like ‘losing his mother for the second time’.

Lata Mangeshkar inspired several singers in her wake, namely – Kavita Krishnamurthy, Alka Yagnik, Sunidhi Chauhan, Shreya Ghoshal, Chitra, Sadhna Sargam, to name a few, and her absence and void will always be felt.
