Nawazuddin Siddiqui Speaks Boldly About Showbiz & Stardom: “Heroes Have A Shelf Life, Actors Dont”

Nawazuddin Siddiqui isn’t just one of the finest actors we have today in Indian cinema, he’s also just as bold with his outlook towards showbiz as he is with his film choices.

The mega talented star of films like Manto, Raman Raghav 2.0 and Haraamkhor, recently spoke about what makes a ‘star’ different from an actor, and how the latter will always continue to have a longer shelf life than the former.

In a recent interview with Aaj Tak, the actor stated:

“Ye koi bhi bata dega ki hero ka waqt hota hai, actor ka koi waqt nahi hota. Actor puri zindagi acting karta hai. Wo alag alag kirdaaron mein nazar aata hai” (Anyone can tell you that a hero has a limited time, but an actor does not. Actor can do acting his whole life. He is constantly seen in different characters)

He further went on to take a dig at the present-day mania of actors trying to build-up muscles to look good. Nawazuddin stated that as long as they have muscles, they’ll continue to thrive, but once the vanity ends – so do their careers.

“Rahi baat hero ki, to jab tak uske dole-shole, pump-vump rehte hain, tab tak wo theek hai. Jaha pump ki hawa nikli, to wo gayab ho jata hai” (As far as being a hero is concerned, as long as his “muscles” are pumped he’s fine. But when it goes away, he disappears)

Let us hope we never miss out on a talent like Nawazuddin, and continue to see him in different characters, as he says.

But certainly makes us wonder who he has in mind here, while drawing this comparison.
