KBC Completes 1000 Episodes: Amitabh Bachchan Becomes Emotional, Remembers Why He Signed Up For It Back Then

Kaun Banega Crorepati completed 1000 episodes earlier this week and to mark the occasion the show’s host, Amitabh Bachchan invited his daughter Shweta and grand-daughter Navya Naveli Nanda.

Bachchan, along with the show – has gained quite a cult following, over the years – and his inimitable style of hosting and witty charm has compelled viewers to stay tuned-in for over 21 years, since the beginning of the show’s first episode in the year 2000.

But it did not exactly start with such great hopes back in the day.

In fact, as per Sr. Bachcnan – several of his friends had warned him not to venture into the territory of television, as they believed it was going to hamper his image as a big-screen superstar.

But in the recent airing of the episode, Big B revealed that he had no other option as he wasn’t getting any film offers at that time, and had to take-up the offer out of necessity.

Here’s what he said:

“Lekin humari apni kuch paristhitiyan aisi thi ke mujhe laga ke filmon mein kaam jo hai wohh mil nahi raha tha, lekin pehle broadcast ke baad jiss tarah ke reaction aane shuru hue, phir aisa laga ke puri duniya badal gayi hai.”

Around the year 2000, Amitabh was reportedly facing some financial crisis, and his film career was yet to take-on the great second innings that were to transform him into an icon.

With the unprecedented success and cult following of KBC, a new door of opportunities opened up for Bachchan around that time – and his acting career took such flight, that it even surpassed the work he did during his prime in the 70’s.

The rest as they say – is history.
