Sanjay Mishra’s Struggle Story: Quit Bollywood And Worked At A Dhaba For Rs 150

Before Sanjay Mishra could find a new lease of life in his career in showbiz, and become a renowned face in modern-day artistic cinema, he had a lengthy struggle in his journey that he had to deal with.

The talented actor, who’s now adored for his outstanding work in films like ‘Kadwi Hawa’ and ‘Ankhon Dekhi’, sort of disappeared from the scene in the midst of his career after a few small appearances on television shows and very successful stint on the show ‘Office Office’, as personal tragedy struck him – following which he decided to let go of the world of glamour.

It was during the filming of the ‘Office Office’ film, that Sanjay became incredibly sick and had a health crisis, soon after which his father suddenly passed away – which left him depressed, and not wanting to come back to Mumbai at all.

Sanjay then cut-off from showbiz, and started working at a small-city dhaba for merely Rs. 150 a day.

Here’s what he was quoted telling Rediff in a recent interview:

“I wanted to be alone, so I went to Rishikesh and started working in a dhaba, making omelettes. The Sardar who owned the dhaba did not recognise me. But costumers would see me and ask, ‘Golmaal mein aap hi the na (Weren’t you in Golmaal)?’ Then, they would want a photograph with me. Finally, the Sardar asked me who I was. Someone had told him I was an actor.”

Lucky for us, filmmaker Rohit Shetty finally persuaded him to return to showbiz, and he made his reentry with the film ‘All The Best’. Coming back to the silver screen wasn’t easy initially, as the actor would often find himself crying in his vanity van – missing his father, while he would shoot those comic scenes in front of the camera, to make us all laugh.

From his early days of struggles in a glamour-obsessed Bollywood, to his departure from showbiz due to personal trauma – Sanjay Mishra’s journey hasn’t been an easy one, but we’re certainly glad, to see his talent reflected in the many fantastic roles he has done in the last 10 years.
