Paresh Rawal Says He’s Sick And Tired Of His ‘Baburao’ Image: ‘I Would Like To Get Rid Of That Image’

Hera Pheri is no doubt one of the most iconic modern-day comedies of Bollywood.

The Priyadarshan directed film was lauded for it’s originality and characterizations of the lead-trio, that remained etched in the minds of cinemagoers – for years and still continues to stay there.

The success of the original film released in the year 2000, was attempted to be recreated with a sequel – ‘Phir Hera Pheri’ – which was released in the year 2006. Although the film had it’s share of ‘funny moments’, it failed to replicate the cinematic appeal and realness of the original, and seemed pretty forced and caricaturish for the most part.

In a recent interview with Quint, actor Paresh Rawal – who played the most iconic character in the film – Baburao, stated that it was because they became a little too ‘over-smart’ during the making of the sequel, because of which everything came out dirty.

He even went on to state that he’d now want to get totally done with that image.

“But I am tired of that. Sick and tired of that.” – he stated.

He added, “What happened was, in Hera Pheri 2, we were very over smart. Zyada hi hoshiyari dikha rahe the apni. And, it did not work.”

Paresh Rawal was perhaps referring to over-using the funny-quotient of their respective characters, because of which they seemingly lost the natural charm that was seen in the original. He did however add that only Suniel Shetty was very earnest with his work in the film.

“Except one guy was working. Who was very earnest– Suniel Shetty. He never wanted to probe anything so he was standing out. Aur hum, ..dekha…bahut gandgi ho gai thi.”

And it doesn’t even seem like he’d like to visit that character, ever again:

“Jab kabhi bhi hota hai, ek to innocence chahiye wo nahi tha….wo tha hi nahi. Gandgi ho gai. In fact, I would like to get rid of that image. Truly.”

As someone wise once said – “When it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”!
