Vicky Kaushal Dedicates ‘Sardar Udham’ To Irrfan Khan, Who Was Originally Supposed To Do The Role

Vicky Kaushal’s ambitious new project, ‘Sardar Udham Singh’ is certainly biggest magnum opus of his career, till now.

Made on a grand scale, the slickly directed new film based on the life of the unsung hero of our country’s fight for independence, is one of the most anticipated projects from Bollywood right now.

But did you know the role was originally to be played by veteran actor Irrfan Khan?

Before his untimely passing, and his diagnosis with a rare form of cancer, Irrfan was the chosen one for the titular role of Udham Singh, but as fate would have it – it was passed down to Vicky, after Irrfan’s passing.

But Vicky maintains, that he has had Irrfan in his mind, through the making of the film – and every scene in it, is an ode to the celebrated late star.

During his recent appearance on The Kapil Sharma show, to promote the film, he said:

“Every shot, every take of this film, is a tribute to Irrfan sir.”

He further added:

“Ma’am actually, I am a big fan of Irrfan sir. I feel he’s one of the finest actors in the world,” he said, adding: “I feel that nobody can fit in his shoes, because not only the size but the quality of the shoe itself is unique.”

Sardar Udham Singh is set for release on Amazon Prime on October 16th.
