Shah Rukh Khan’s psychotic obsessive lover from the film Darr is one of his most iconic characters.
Over the years, it may have been reduced more to caricature and mimicry, but the role features some of the most famous one-liners and scenes of his career – that fans still like to reenact, even today.
But did you know, he wasn’t quite the first choice to play that villainous role?
SRK was in fact the last choice of the makers, who had approached a slew of other mainstream actors – who had all turned it down.
But you’d also be surprised to know that the role was also offered to none other than – Dara Singh, before it eventually went to SRK.
This was actually revealed by the film’s leading lady – Juhi Chawla, during an off-record candid conversation behind the stage of The Kapil Sharma show. Juhi stated that Dara Singh was to play the negative character, before it went to SRK.
After the role was turned down by everyone, including the likes of – Aamir Khan and Sunny Deol, it was finally handed over to – Shah Rukh, and he gave it his own trademark spin.
Now even after all these years, it remains one of the most revisited performances of his career.
