A viral video from the past doing the rounds showing a young Neha Kakkar performing in the second season of Indian Idol is catching the internet’s attention.
The clip, shows the then-budding singer, attempting to do a duet with a co-contestant during the second rounds of the competition and going astray from the melody a few times, missing several notes in the process.
The performance was marred by negative commentary from the show’s judge, composer Anu Malik – who created a rhyme in his typical fashion, and said he fails like slapping on his own face after hearing her sing.
Malik actually does place a slap on his cheeks as he says: “Neha Kakkar, tujhe sunke laga mein apne muh pe maar lu thappad.’
The hilariously awkward interaction has once again gone viral after it was shared by a Twitter user:

Nevetheless, Neha’s journey leading her all the way to become the biggest singing sensation of today, has been pretty applause-worthy.
And this video proves, it doesn’t always start pretty for most.
