Swades Impact: AR Rahman Says Film Brought Back Several People From Abroad

Swades was not only one of the best films to have come out of actor Shah Rukh Khan’s entire career, it can also be called one of the best mainstream films ever created in Hindi cinema.

The film tells the story about a certain NRI, named Mohan Bhargaw, who comes back to India to find his long lost ‘Kaveri Amma’, and gets entangled in the love for his homeland, that binds him to the place.

And the film itself had the same level of effect on it’s viewers.

AR Rahman, who contributed to bringing out the chore essence of this Ashutosh Gowarikar masterpiece, by rendering one of his career-best work as a music composer, recently reflected on the impact this film had on people.

Evoking a keen sense of love for one’s motherland, the film and it’s emotionally-charged music, inspired several Indians, who had settled outside, to come back to the country – Rahman recalls.

The composer was quoted singing high praises of the film in his recent interview with Bollywood Hungama.

Here’s what he was quoted telling the website in their interview:

“I felt that it is the most underrated movie. When it came, people pulled Ashutosh and all of us down. But, you know, very rarely does a movie make an impact on life.”

He further added:

“…it is very rare that a song and movie’s essence goes to the inner core of the soul and this is one such movie. A lot of people have come back and blamed us, ‘because of you guys I came back from the US, came from Australia, Europe back to India to make India what it is.”

Well, not just for it’s impact in people’s minds, Swades also goes down in history for being a cinematic gem that has stood the test of time.

It is simply one of the most beautifully crafted, heart-rendering films ever – with AR Rahman’s score playing a key role in bringing out the essence of it.

Swades brings us all home.
