Kajol may be one of the most admired and celebrated actresses of mainstream Bollywood, and an entire generation’s icon – but it was quite a journey for her to consider herself ‘as beautiful’ as her fans thought of her.
The actress was recently spotted talking about how what everybody was saying about her appearance then, contributed to her not feeling beautiful while looking into the mirror.
The 46 year old star is on the cover of Netflix India’s virtual magazine and was quoted by the streaming service reflecting on her not-so-mainstream appearance, especially with how female stars were expected to look like back in the 90’s.
Here’s what she stated on the subject:
“The idea of seeing the beauty in imperfection is something my grandmother tried to instil in me at a very young age. She was considered one of the great beauties of her time, but she always told me, It’s my slight cockeye that makes me beautiful!’ Yet, it was many years before I could look at myself in the mirror and go, ‘You are beautiful!'”
She further added:
“Don’t get me wrong – I was very confident in my skin growing up. There were many adjectives I applied to myself: attractive, smart, cool, sexy even. But I didn’t consider myself beautiful. A lot of it had to do with what everybody was spouting at that time. It took me a long time to arrive at ‘beautiful,'” she told Netflix.
Thankfully majority of the 90’s generation did not feel the way Kajol did about herself as she still remains one of the most crushed-upon actresses of that time.
Kajol’s beauty still remains timeless.
