Nawazuddin Siddiqui: “Bollywood Formula Films Do Not Require Talented Actors”

As the debates around nepotism VS outsiders and potboilers VS quality-content continues to heat-up everyday, the talented lot of the Hindi film industry are joining in on the discussion to lay down their thoughts.

Previously, the likes of Shekhar Kapoor, Manoj Bajpayee and Kangana Ranaut have all spoken about the present day film-making scene and now it is, yet another mega-talent – Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who has taken subtle jibe at mainstream movies with ‘naach gaana.’

The actor, who’s previously spoken about his initial struggles in the industry and the changing landscape of Indian cinema, once again passionately spoke about the lack of talent in mainstream potboilers.

In a no-hold-barred interview with Filmy Companion, the award-winning actor of critically acclaimed movies like ‘Maanjhi’ and ‘Haraamkhor’ stated:

“If you dream of one day becoming a hero or a heroine, in films with five dance numbers, then that is what you deserve. There’s a long queue of actors wanting to do those films.”

That’s not all, Nawaz also stated, that movies like these don’t really require a special kind of talent and can be done by any replaceable stars.

“I am sorry to say, these Bollywood formula films do not require talented actors. There are thousands of filmmakers who work outside the formula. You should also know where your talent will be used.”

Great to see a gigantic talent like Nawaz, finally speaking the absolute truth about the facet of Hindi film cinema.

Let us never confuse ‘big stars’ of mainstream big-banner potboilers for having the same level of talent, as the likes of Nawaz, Manoj, etc.

The actor’s recently released film ‘Raat Akeli Hai’ – available on streaming platforms, has already received glorious reviews and is doing pretty well.

That’s the kind of content we deserve!
