The debate of Nepotism and the constant bullying of newcomers in Bollywood is heating up again.
Days after the untimely demise and suicide of Sushant Singh Rajput – several people from the film industry are now speaking out against the fixature of both audiences and film producers over upcoming actors with starry-backgrounds.
The likes of Manoj Bajpayee, Raveena Tandon, Kangana Ranaut – among several others, have spoken about the nasty tradition of nepotism, which makes it extremely difficult for outsiders to make it big in the film industry.
Sushant, too had to face similar circumstances, when the who’s who of the industry and the sons and daughters of the B-town big-shots, treated him as a less-than, and gave him a cold-shoulder – in an age-old tradition of bullying, perhaps because he wasn’t “refined” enough in their eyes.
Like several others who’ve come before him, Sushant too received barely any accolade or appreciation for his work, while for the kids of former stars – there was a typical outpouring of love and acclaim on social media and beyond.
Sharing a similar such scenario, Sushant’s Sonchiriya co-star, Ranvir Shorey too expressed his frustration over the many tacky award shows of the film industry, which are mostly fixated to give accolades to those who come with a popular surname.
Here’s what the talented actor, who’s also been sidelined by the industry, said in a series of Tweets:
1)
This actually unfolded on a popular Bollywood awards show:
A star kid is co-hosting the show. They announce the next category – Best Actor. The nominees are played out, and the star kid is one of the nominees. Surprise-surprise!

2)
To present the award, the hosts invite two esteemed film personalities, who happen to be the star kid’s parents. What a sweet coincidence! The presenters open the envelope and announce the winner to be – drumroll please! – the star kid, of course! What a Kodak family moment!

3)
The star kid walks from the host’s dias to accept the award and makes a short thank you speech and heads back to hosting the rest of the show like business as usual.
This is how mainstream Bollywood is a family.

Isn’t this how we have seen the big old Bollywood tamasha unfold year after year?
None of those awards are really meant for celebrating the art of filmmaking or acting. It is just a ‘show-shaw’ meant for the big-shots of the industry, to put a pat on their own backs.
