Ayushmann Khurrana Was Once Refused Work By Karan Johar’s Office, As “They Only Work With Star Kids”

As the Nepotism debate is heating up once again in Bollywood, several actors who’ve been at the receiving end of it in their respective careers are speaking out about it.

Sushant Singh Rajput’s suicide – allegedly instigated by lack of opportunities and prejudice by some A-lister’s of the industry, has united people both inside and outside showbiz, to fight against such lobbying – which makes it harder for outsiders to survive.

Now actor Ayushmann Khurrana – who also managed to make a name for himself in films, despite not having a godfather in the industry, has an experience to share with the world, in the same lines.

An excerpt from a previously published book by the actor, has now been going viral – in which he recollected the time he sought to get an opportunity from Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions.

The excerpt is from his book – Cracking The Code: My Journey In Bollywood.

He writes:

“Karan gave me the landline number to his office when I met him. I should have taken a hint there and then. But I was so excited! I even planned exactly when I would make the call: sometime around 11:30 am, so he’d be done with breakfast and available to talk.”

He further continued in the book:

“The next day I dialled the number they’d given me. They said Karan wasn’t in office. The day after that I called again. They said he was busy. And finally, my bubble burst when, the subsequent day, they told me bluntly ‘We only work with stars, and can’t work with you.'”

The incident, though previously shared, has once again made people stand in solidarity with those countless struggling artists – who are not able to make a mark in the industry, as it has been turned into a ‘family business.’
