Sonu Sood Sends More Migrants Home, Starts Call Centre For Those In Need

While most Bollywood celebs are hiding in their air-conditioned homes, and you haven’t heard from them – since no new releases are coming out due to the nationwide lockdown, there’s one actor who’s setting an example for all of them.

Sonu Sood – as you may already know, has been arranging for mass transportation facilities to send thousands of labours home, after the painful scene of their exodus from cities shook the nation.

The jobless and hungry daily-wage workers were making a desperate attempt to flee the cities, heading back to their respective villages from all parts of the country, after a nation-wide lockdown left them jobless, and in many cases – homeless.

Even our governments couldn’t meet the requirements of this community as they struggled to reach home, walking hundreds of kilometres on their feet.

Sonu Soon – on the other hand arranged even more buses today, to send these labourers home and stepped out to wave goodbyes to them. “All the best. Wapas zaroor aana,” he was heard saying.

After realising that handling the requests of thousands of people who are in a need to move to their hometown was not possible directly, Sood has also now launched a toll free number – 18001213711, which those in need, can call to seek help to receive transportation.

Here’s what he was quoted telling PTI:

“I was getting a lot of calls… thousands of calls everyday. My family and friends were busy collecting the data then we realised we might miss out on a lot of people who we will not be able to approach us. So we decided to open this call centre, it is a toll free number.”

Way to go, Sonu!
