There are several people among us who are kind of thin-skinned when it comes to the depiction of their lives through art, how subjective and open-ended it may be.
It has often been witnessed, how our society is accustomed to find offence in a lot of things – that may just be created to mirror the truth that persists in the real world.
Several Hindi movies in the past have been at the receiving end of all kinds of opposition – be it people burning effigies on roads, causing ruckus in the movie-sets or filing a petition to stop a release.
We recently put together a list of 10 such movies, that generated some of the biggest controversies witnessed in Bollywood – either due to being sexually charged, or politically motivated. Some of these movies were protested due to the depiction of homosexuality (thank god, those times have changed!), while others were criticised for touching on “sensitive topics” of history or religion, for that matter.
From the unprecedented on-road protests seen upon the release of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavat, to the powerful depiction of same-sex desires in Deepa Mehta’s Fire, that angered some religious groups – these movies either benefited from such controversies, of suffered due to the same.
Check out the list of the 10 most controversial Hindi movies below:
Do you find some of these controversies justifiable?
