A Bharatnatyam dancer depicted the anguish of a domestic abuse victim, through her form of art – in a recently uploaded viral video.
Janaki Rangarajan, performed the powerful dance-routine with stotram, Aigiri Nandini playing in the background, portraying the turmoil, many females are facing worldwide at the moment.
With the Coronavirus pandemic, forcing all of us to remain in a lockdown – there are also those who are finding themselves in abusive situations in their households, unable to make an escape. Several people have expressed their concerns over the same, and now Rangarajan’s video is being seen by thousands making a point in that regard.
Here’s what she wrote in the caption of the video:
“Stay home, Stay safe” but what if staying home is life threatening? This video is dedicated to ALL those affected by Domestic abuse/Intimate partner violence- physical, psychological, emotional and sexual… Marital rape is still not a crime! Lockdown has led to a substantial increase in domestic violence and child abuse and danger lurks at home every breathing second. Nowhere/no one to turn to when you are confined with the abuser but this is everyday reality for many and unfortunately, will continue for life. Let’s not forget this the next time we complain about being confined for a short time in the lap of safety! So many Mahishasuras… Where are the “Goddesses”??? ”
Watch her performance below:
Stay safe everyone!
