We will be glad to live in a world where we don’t have to point out the very obvious abnormalities in the selection process of Indian movie awards (focusing on Filmfare today – since they are the oldest) and how they nominate movies based on their popularity, instead of actual content.
Yet again – looking at the nominations for this year, the Filmfare awards have shown that they are just a corporate-backed entity, inviting as many big names every year as they can, to entice the masses and generate revenues by the means of television and other forms of media.
What they fail to understand is – had they built a reputation like the Oscars, where movies are (mostly) awarded based on merit, audiences would have still flocked in front of their television sets to watch them, year after year, just for the sheer value they would’ve held.
Looking at the nominees this year, we’re once again appalled with some of the choices and some of the omissions.
So here’s briefly counting down a list of those folks who deserved a nod, but didn’t get it – and those who didn’t deserve it, but god knows why, still got it…and no! we’re not going to even consider or acknowledge a category like ‘Critics Choice’, which just sounds like a lollipop for those who should have won or got nominated in the main categories.
Here’s reflecting on some of the main categories, only…
