Sushmita Sen was one of the first mainstream actresses in Bollywood and perhaps one of the most prominent females in popular culture who chose to become a single mother through adoption, while she was only at the beginning of her career.
It wasn’t quite the ‘societal norm’, when she went ahead and adopted her first daughter Renee in the early 2000’s, years after which she went for her second adoption, bringing home little – Alisah.
And the actress also seems to have done a damn well job at it.
Making the conscious decisions to not hide the truth from both of her daughters, and letting them know of their adoptions – Sushmita hasn’t only made her kids more empathetic, but also more aware about the significance of adopting a child.
This was shown in Sush’s latest video on Instagram, in which her youngest – Alisah, read out a school essay about the importance of adoption, stemming from how their own lives have turned out with each other.
The actress was caught all up in her emotions, as she saw the 10 year old read it out in her own words.
