Manoj Bajpayee’s Film ‘Bhonsle’ Wins Two Awards At The Asian Film Festival in Barcelona

Manoj Bajpayee represented Indian cinema well in Barcelona.

The gifted actor, who’s known for his versatile performances in movies like ‘Aligarh’ and ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’, recently starred in the historical drama – ‘Bhonsle’ – and the movie has now started winning international accolades.

‘Bhonsle’ – the critically acclaimed film starring Bajpayee has won two major awards at the Asian Film Festival in Barcelona, in the ‘Best Screenplay’ and ‘Best Director’ category.

Directed by Devashish Makhija the film revolves around a retired Mumbai cop and his friendship with a Northern India duo, at a time when the local politicians are spewing fire against migrants.

Here is what the filmmaker was quoted as saying by Indiatimes after his win:

“To not only be recognised as an Asian film but to be awarded as one is an honour. The migrant issue explored in Bhonsle is one that is relevant to all of Asia if not the world. And it is a matter of hope and joy that this story of outsiders resonated this way. Any award a film like this wins is an award to the courageous team that collectively made the film.”

Congratulations to Devashish, Manoj Bajpayee and the whole team of this though-provoking film!
