Aamir Khan will soon be returning to the big-screen to depict an Indianized version of the Hollywood classic, ‘Forrest Gump’, which will also tell the story of the horrifying 1984 anti-Sikh riots.
The 54 year old actor, who was last seen in Yash Raj Films’ Thugs Of Hindostan, will now star in ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ – which dares to touch the subject, that still feels afresh to those who were directly affected by the tragedy.
The riots – which started immediately after the assassination of then prime minister, Indira Gandhi by one of her Sikh bodyguards, killed nearly 3000 people in Delhi alone. While somewhere between 8000 – 17000 people across India have been reported to have lost their lives during the attacks.
The mass massacre can also be called one of the largest in the country’s history, so the big-screen adaptation of a subject, as sensitive as this, is certainly going to be quite a task.

While the movie doesn’t directly focus on the riots and is said to be an official Indian adaptation of Hollywood’s Oscar winning drama which starred Tom Hanks, the backdrop of the movie is going to touch on the subject as the story progresses.

Apart from Aamir, actress Kareena Kapoor is also confirmed to have joined the cast of the movie, which is being directed by Advait Chandan, who previously helmed the actor’s Secret Superstar.
