Weather or not you believe in the existence of the supernatural, there are some places which have something so eerie about them that the thought of being there alone may just send chills across your spine.
There are plenty of ‘ghost towns’ and ‘abandoned houses’ in our country that have some goosebumps-inducing stories behind how they came to be, and an atmosphere so creepy that it appears straight out of a classic horror tale.
From the ‘ghost towns’ of Rajasthan to an abandoned house from a posh locality of Delhi, here are some of the most haunted and scariest places in India:
Mukesh Mills – Mumbai
Established more than 150 years ago, but abandoned since a major fire accident back in the 80’s. Located in the midst of the hustle bustle of Mumbai, the deserted nature of the place and the reported sightings of the ‘miserable spirits’ keeps everyone away from the place.

Gujrat’s Dumas beach which is famous for its many scary tales. It is also said that a number of tourists who dared to visit this eerie place during the dark hours, never made a return. The whispering sounds of the air in this ‘less visited’ beach, particularly at night, is what makes it one of the scariest places of the country.

Kuldhara – Rajasthan
Yet another abandoned ancient town, which was left behind by its residents after they refused to succumb to the unruly demands of the Diwan of Jaisalmer, Salim Singh. According to the fables popularized by locals, Kuldhara’s people left behind a curse after being forced to evacuate the place, that totally deserted the colony. During the darker hours of the day, the place is home to some ‘unfulfilled spirits’, who ensure no one turns it into a home again.
A chawl in Mumbai which is said to be home to an unhappy ghost of a female who died after falling into a well, in the society’s vicinity. If that isn’t straight of a classic Hollywood horror tale – meant to scare the daylights out of you!
