Neena Gupta – who’s always lived life in her own terms and has never succumbed to societal norms, feels that people still haven’t got it right when it comes to treating single women.
The versatile actress, who’s also been a single mother and an independent woman for most part of her life, recently spoke with Indiatimes reflecting on the manner in which single women are looked-upon in our society.

Here is what the talented actress was quoted saying on the subject:
“Yes we are very very regressive. A single woman is available, a single woman has no respect, a single woman cannot do this, cannot do that. I feel if you want to live in this society you have to follow some rules.”
She further added:
“I had a tough time because I was single, men used to call me at their parties, now I am not called because I am married. Yes, I feel we are very regressive as a society. Some people may not like what I am saying, but I am saying this to all strong single woman out there”.

Asserting how women her age can continue to maintain their self-respect and esteem, the ‘Badhai Ho’ star stated:
“Work is the most important thing in life, work is your, self-respect and self-esteem. I had lost my self-esteem and respect from everybody around when I had stopped working. Agree you do your duties of being a mother, wife, and daughter but never stop working. Without work there is no respect, so never stop working.”
Cannot agree more with this!
