In a heart-rendering moment, locals from a remote village in Assam paid homage to and performed final rites of a recently deceased friendly elephant from their wild neighborhood.
The elephant was being looked after by the villagers after it was hit by a train, nearly 3 years ago. They even named him Burha Baba (Old Monk), developing a mutual bond of love and trust.
As the mammal breathed his last, his caretakers and other folks from Assam’s Kaliabor village came together to say their final goodbye’s.
“He was like one of us and never harmed us,” a local was quoted as saying by The Hindu.
The elephant had apparently approached old-age and was not keeping well for a while.
One fine day, he came to this place and decided not to leave….we named him Mohan…It’s been 3 years and now he became a part of this village…this is how this place attracts everyone😍#hatimura #kaliabor #theplacewhereispenttheinitialdaysofmychildhood #wheremyheartbelongs #peace #naturelover 😍
Hearwarming to see how the love for animals strikes a universal chord.
RIP to the beautiful, much-loved Burha Baba.
