Majority of Bollywood stars may have shied away from speaking on the subject of LGBT rights in the past, especially prior to the decriminalization of consensual gay-sex, but the landmark judgement by our Supreme Court in 2018, has certainly seen a number of them come out and speak about it in public.
Apart from the likes of Sonam Kapoor and Celina Jaitely, few B-town personalities ever worded out their opinions on the subject, when section 377 was still lingering like a dark cloud on the fates of Indian LGBT community.
Among those speaking on the road to equality now, is Padmaavat actress Deepika Padukone.

When quizzed about the subject during her recent interview with Mumbai Mirror, here is what the actress was quoted as telling the publication:
“It feels strange to me that we even have to ask that question and the fact that we need to address it. We should not even allow ourselves to be in this place where somebody else dictates how and with whom you want to spend the rest of your lives.”

While her way to address the ‘issue’ seems much too politically correct and not as bold and direct as what has already been said and done by the likes of Sonam and Celine, it is certainly a welcome move, nevertheless.
