Gangs Of Wasseypur Producer To Make Biopic On Asaram Bapu!

Sunil Bohra – the man behind projects like Gangs Of Wasseypur and Tanu Weds Manu is now gearing to bring, convicted godman – Asaram Bapu’s story to celluloid.

Bohra has managed to acquire the rights to Ushinor Majumdar’s novel ‘God of Sin: The Cult, Clout and Downfall of Asaram Bapu’ and as the name suggests, the story will dwell into the rise and fall of the former religious leader.

Asaram is presently serving his jail term after being convicted for raping a 16 year old girl from Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh while she had visited his ashram in MP for studies.

Interestingly, the announcement of the news comes around the same time when Asaram’s son, Narayan Sai – also a self-proclaimed ‘godman’, has been convicted for raping another woman and has been given life imprisonment for the same.

Here is what Sunil Bohra said while speaking on the forthcoming project:

“I read the book and was taken in by lawyer PC Solanki who fought the case for the victims against Asaram Bapu for free. The two lady police officers — one from Jodhpur and the other from Surat — are inspiring, too. In my eyes, they are the real heroes. We will focus on these people and the rest will be based on facts. I bought the rights of the book last month. I have started meeting writers and shall lock the team soon. I want the movie to have an international appeal. The cast will be decided once the script is ready.”

Would be interesting to see if the biopic manages to bring the raw, gritty and rustic truth to picture, as it is, or if falls into sugarcoating reality as recent biopics like ‘Sanju’ did.
