As 2018 concludes, it is time to count down the list of those Indian flicks that managed to strike a chord with viewers and rung-in the cash registers at the box office in big ways!
Filled with a number of highly anticipated releases, this year certainly did not turn out to be as commercially fruitful as the year before.
While 2017 saw big releases like Baahubali 2, Secret Superstar and Tiger Zinda Hai, which managed to rake-in big numbers at the box office, most of 2018’s highly anticipated projects failed to make a mark with desi audiences, and the result was some shocking turnouts at the box office – even with the heavy star-pullers.
Content-driven, critically acclaimed movies were the clear winners, proving that Indian audiences do indeed crave for quality cinema over star-studded “show-sha” and flamboyance.
While big-banner flicks like ‘Padmaavat’ and ‘Sanju’ still made it to the Top 5 of the year-end list with their worldwide collections, movies like Badhai Ho, Raazi, Stree and Andhadhun – managed to stand their own ground, solely based on their content.
Tamil, Kannada and Telegu industries too yielded some of the biggest hits of the year and their placement on the list, may take you by surprise.
