Although Indian movies have been breaking out from the shell and experimenting with new content like never before, there’re still a number of subjects and genres which remain largely unexplored – topics that, maybe the producers, don’t find worth investing into.
Thankfully all that is slowly coming to light with more and more indie films making it to the big screens.
Rahi Anil Barve and Anand Gandhi’s ‘Tumbbad’ is one such film.
Exploring the genre of ‘Horror’ flicks like its been rarely done on Indian cinema, the visually stunning historic period horror takes you to a land of old-school fables, in which the search for hidden treasures result into some ghastly effects.
The enactment and visualization, as showcased in the first official trailer of the flick, would remind you of Guillermo del Toro Oscar nominated dark fantasy drama, Pan’s Labyrinth. But as it goes deeper and deeper into the realms of an age-old temple in 1920’s Pune and the hidden secrets and a possible treasure, inciting greed on everyone’s mind, that lie underneath it’s surface, you realize ‘Tumbbad’ is an original, horror-fantasy like rarely seen before.
The movie premiered at the 75th Venice International Film Festival during their critics week section, becoming the first Indian movie to do so and managed to garner pretty positive reviews from international critics.
Starring Sohum Shah, the movie is set for a release this Friday on 12th October and based on the epic trailer alone, we highly recommend you check this out!
