Man Who Saved People During Kerala Floods, Dies Crying For Help In Road Accident

In a sad twist of events, a young man who actively participated in rescue operation during the devastating Kerala floods, died while crying for help after getting into a major road accident.

Jinesh Jerone, who lived in Poonthura with his family because an internet and local hero when clips of him swimming across the flooded localities to bring drowning people ashore were uploaded online.

The same zeal and passion was not shown by other people when Jinesh died this past Sunday, begging passersby for some help as a truck hit him – not too far away from his home. It took 30 minutes for an ambulance to arrive and by the time he was taken to a hospital, it was already too late.

“He lay on the road, crushed below his waist, and screamed for help,” Jagan, the late hero’s friend was quoted telling Times Of India.

“Nobody stopped,” Jagan recalls. “I can’t believe something like this could happen to a man like Jinesh. He loved to help others. That’s what made him a hero during the recent floods.”

Jinesh was only 24, and his death certainly raises questions about the integrity of people in today’s society.

“His death should wake us all to the fact that we need to stop and help people hit by cars on India’s deadly roads. We are leaving them to die. It’s just terrible,” one of his friends was quoted telling TOI.

If even witnessing death right before our eyes doesn’t make us reach out to help, what really would?
