Agra: Muslims and Hindus celebrate Janmashtami together, establishing Communal Harmony

In times as tensed as they are these days – between various religious communities – we all need to hear and see as many instances of communal harmony and peaceful dialects as we can.

Not only do they re-establish our faith in the secular thread of our society but it also negates the hate-filled propaganda of religious extremists.

Serving one such beautiful instance, the Muslim community in Agra’s Kheriya Mod locality came together in the celebration of the Hindu festival of Janmashtami.

The Hindu and Muslim families of the area have been joining hands to prepare and celebrate the holy festival, for the past 15 years and the tradition continued this year as well.

Md. Shadil Quereshi, a local resident of Kheriya told ANI, “We start preparations several months in advance and all Hindu-Muslims work very hard for it. From decoration to the set-up we all work together on all aspects.”

He further continued:

“We believe that there is no religion or caste in celebrating the festivals. We have been doing this for around 15 years and we want our children to continue the same. We want that Hindu-Muslim lives affectionately all across the country in this same way.”

If only the message could be passed on to every corner of our country – the world would certainly be a better place.

Here’s to hoping!
