Veteran actress Rita Bhaduri has passed away at age 62

One of the most recognizable character actresses of small and big screen, Rita Bhaduri has passed away at the age of 62.

Known for generally portraying the roles of the ‘mother’ or ‘grandmother’ of lead protagonists on TV shows and sometimes films, Rita was suffering from a kidney ailment and was admitted to Mumbai’s Sujay Hospital in Vile Parle for the past 10 days.

Actor Shishir Sharma posted about her passing on Facebook. Here is what he said:

“We deeply regret to inform you that Reeta Bhaduri has departed for her journey beyond. The funeral rites will be held on 17th July, Tuesday 12 noon at the Cremation Ground, Parsi Wada Road, Parshiwada, Chakala, Andheri East. Extremely sad.. lost a wonderful human being .. a mother to many of us.. will miss u Ma…”

The actress was currently shooting for and seen in TV series, Nimki Mukhiya, in which she played the role of a grandmother to one of the lead protagonists of the show – Abhishek Sharma.

Rita worked in numerous Bollywood films in 70’s, 80’s and 90’s as a supporting actress and had prominent roles in movies like Sawan Ko Aane Do and Julie. She was also nominated for a Filmfare Award in the ‘Best Supporting Actress’ category for her work in the 1995 released drama, ‘Raja.’

She is also remembered for her performance in the superhit, ‘Ghar Ho Toh Aesa’ – which starred Anil Kapoor and Kadar Khan and is now regarded as cult Bollywood family drama.

The actress’ sudden demise is being mourned by her many co-stars over the years, but she leaves behind quite a lengthy body of work – in both television and movies.
