Only a few weeks ago, athlete Hima Das brought pride and glory to the nation when she became the first Indian to strike a gold in a world-level track championship.
Despite her humble background and a training period which apparently went through many struggles, Hima managed to climb atop the international sports event garnering praise from all quarters of the country.
After her inspiring story made it to the mainstream media, some of which briefly detailed how she journeyed to victory – Das’ story may now be brought to the big-screen.
Akshay Kumar – whose recent trend of movies has seen an inclination towards depicting many current and historically inspiring socio-political subjects – including his many patriotic-themed movies in the recent past, has showed interest in pursuing the project of Hima’s biography.

Impressed and inspired by Hima’s achievement on the face of all adversities Akshay interest in the subject goes-in line with the latest trend of biopics of famous people, including the recently released ‘Sanju’ – which managed to do wonder at the box office.
Here is what Akshay was quoted telling ANI:
“I would like to make a biopic on Hima Das. She’s a young achiever, in a sport that India’s not identified with on the international stage. She won gold in a track and field event, which is a huge achievement and should be highlighted through a movie. As Indians, we run and get on to a bus and train easily. So we have the potential to run. It’s only a matter of time and encouragement before we can make a name for ourselves in track and field events.”
Interestingly, Akshay already has a sports-themed inspirational flick, ‘Gold’ hitting cinemas on 15th August.
We’d be curious to see if Akki’s interest in the subject continues after the release of ‘Gold’ as well.

A well-put-together biopic on an achiever like Hima, would be definitely worth a watch!
