Watch: Man narrowly escapes death while crossing Delhi Metro tracks

If it wasn’t for the Delhi Metro automatically shutting down its gates before departure, we might have seen people hanging out of it – the way they do while traveling through local trains.

Some of the transportation facilities by government are misused in such a way – that people end up risking their own lives, only to work through a ‘jugaad’ on something.

Such was the case, when a man in Delhi attempted to reach the other side of the platform at a Delhi metro station by directly crossing the track-lines.

The incident took place at Shastri Nagar Metro station, where 21 year old Mayur Patel attempted to cross the tracks in order to reach the platform on the other side (perhaps out of laziness to go down the stairs like normal people).

To make it even more dangerous he attempted to cross the line while the metro was still at the platform and about to depart for the next station.

The viral CCTV footage from the moment shows him struggling to climb atop the platform as the train moves towards him and he falls right in front of it – barely a few inches away from tragedy. It was the assertiveness of the driver – who stops the train right there and then, that Mayur managed to get up and climb atop the platform again.

When asked why he did what he did – he claimed it was the first time he was traveling through the metro and didn’t quite know how to go to the other platform.

This could actually be believable considering it is quite a common sight to see people running across platforms on Indian railway tracks as well – but with slight common sense and patience we can always avoid such tragedies from happening.

Although, the penalty of crossing the lines could extend up to 6 months in jail – Mayur was only charged 150 bucks for his ignorant action..
