Alia Bhatt's 'Raazi' becomes 5th biggest hit of the year. This is how much it collected in 1 week…

Gone are the days when female stars were only required to play glossy showpieces revolving around the macho ‘Heroes’ of their movies, only in order to be seen.

Movies with female protagonists or with women at center now manage to do considerably well at the ticket counters, thanks to a more aware audience that has started looking out for great content as opposed to superficial flattery.

Alia Bhatt’s recent offering ‘Raazi’ is the latest flick to join that list.

The thriller/drama revolves around the story of an Indian spy (played by Alia) who marries a Pakistani military personnel at the time of the Indo-Pak war of 1971 upon the order of her father. The Meghna Gulzar directed flick is said to be based on Harinder Sikka’s novel, ‘Calling Sehmat.’

Completing its first week run at the Box Office – the movie has managed to collect nearly 56 crores, turning it into the fifth highest grosser of the year – already. For an action-thriller that not only stars a female protagonist in the lead but is also helmed by a female director (Meghna Gulzar) – that’s quite a rarity.

Although as positive word of mouth spreads, considering the love the movie is receiving from both audiences and critics, expect it to do even better in the forthcoming days of its run at the BO.

Alia, who’s delivered a number of phenomenal performances proving her metal as an actress, is certainly turning out to be one of the most reliable and bankable female stars of the industry – standing head-to-head with the likes of Deepika Padukone and Kangana Ranaut.

Congratulations to Alia and team-Raazi.
