Although Amitabh Bachchan has been regarded as the legend of Indian cinema and also known as the superstar of the millennium, he has often shied away from commenting on sensitive social issues or anything that might put him in the center of any form of controversy.

In a similar fashion, when like several other Bollywood celebs, the actor was asked to comment on the Unnao and Khathua rape cases, that have shook-up the entire nation, he refused to comment on it and said “Mujhe iss vishay mei charcha nahi karni hai, mujhe ghinn aati hai, so is vishay ko uchalo mat” (Even discussing the issue makes me feel disgusted. Don’t bring up this issue. It is terrible to even talk about it)”

As expected Amitabh’s diplomatic reply didn’t go down too well with majority of people who have been relentlessly fighting for justice showing their agitation on the increasing number of rapes in India. The star received mixed reactions on twitter for his unwillingness to talk about an issue he apparently considers ‘too disgusting to even mention.’  One such criticism for his silence, came from the outspoken actress and filmmaker, Pooja Bhatt who threw a sarcastic jibe at the actor for his hypocrisy.

Pooja took to twitter and lashed-out Amitabh for shying away from commenting on the issue. tweeted “I can’t help being reminded of a film called #Pink. Can our images on screen please be reflected in reality ?

And obviously Pooja calling out Amitabh didn’t go down well with Twiterrati and millions of those fans who support  and follow the actor. She was soon caught between wild personal remarks, which called out her alleged “alcohol habits”, addressing her with names like – “Brainless thakeli” and what not. The actress did respond to some of the backlash directed towards her.

For those of you who don’t know, Amitabh Bachchan is also the Brand Ambassador of Indian government’s Beti “Padhao Beto Bachao” campaign, which explains why the vetren actor was asked to comment on Kathua and Unnao rape incidents and perhaps why his silence on the issue irritated many.
