A Ban on Momos? An ongoing campaign to prohibit momos claiming 'They will kill you'

Momos are without doubt the biggest food-fetish north-Indians and particularly Delhiites have, there are no two opinions about that.

Even if you’re new to the city, you’d come in terms with Delhi’s momo-mania with Momo-stalls located in every other corner of the streets across the city. While the taste has shifted to other cities as well, Delhi’s craze for the snack tops them all.

The sight of juicy dumplings served with spicy sauces is food porn for several Indians.

But this might not remain the same for much too long, as a political leader from J&K is attempting to put a ban on Momos citing their “health hazards.”

BJP MLC Ramesh Arora wants a prohibition on eating Momos stating they are, “..the root cause of several life-threatening diseases, including cancer of the intestine.”

Arora has been pushing for a ban on dumplings as it includes an ingredient called ‘Ajinomoto’ – a ‘salt-like’ taste enhancer, which was claimed to be responsible for a nationwide ban on Maggi noodles back in 2015.

“Ajinomoto, a kind of salt, causes serious diseases, including cancer. It is responsible for converting a minor headache and migraine,” Arora said.

Could Arora’s campaign push for nation-wide ban of Momos – like it so happened with Maggi back then?
