So when Aamir decided to attend the Dinanath Mangeshkar awards in Mumbai, it came as a big surprise to everyone. The buss generated this Tuesday made him the top trend on Twitter as people talked about his presence at the award show.
Speculations started pouring in about how it came to be and according to some sources, it was singing legend Lata Mangeshkar who persuaded Khan to attend the show as the awards are presented in honor of the singer’s father, Dinanath Mangeshkar who passed away 75 years ago.
The 51 year old actor was awarded for his performance in his record-chattering blockbuster, ‘Dangal’ – which was recently snubbed at the National Film Awards.

The second major reason for the news to go viral on social media, was the fact that the award was presented to him by the chief of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Mohan Bhagwat. This was considered an irony by many people as only two years ago Aamir was strongly critisized by RSS for his remark on growing intolerance in India towards the religious minorities.

Aamir’s infamous boycott of all Indian awards started when he lost the ‘Best Actor’ Filmfare award in the year 1996 to Shah Rukh Khan who was awarded for his performance in the movie ‘Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge’ while Aamir was nominated for his work in ‘Rangeela’, which according him (and many others) was more superior than the former.
Aamir is currently geared for the release of his upcoming flick, ‘Secret Superstar’ and will also be seen in ‘Thugs Of Hindostan’ in which he stars alongside Amitabh Bachchan.
