Abhay Deol calls out Bollywood celebs for endorsing fairness products

Most of us are sick and tired of hearing Bollywood celebrities trying hard to convince us that to achieve anything in life you first have to have a fair complexion.
Some of the ad stories are not just cringe-worthy but casually discriminatory to say the least (Fair & Lovely, we’re looking at YOU!)
Recently Kangana Ranaut made headlines by refusing to advertise for fairness products and was lauded for her step, and now Abhay Deol has gone a step further (further steps infact) and called-out almost every Bollywood celeb who has featured or promoted a fairness product.
The 41 year old actor took to Facebook to name some A-listers who have endorsed fairness products in recent times. Check out some of his posts below:

“There’s a lot more of these campaigns that are blatantly, and sometimes subtly, selling you the idea that whiter skin is better than darker skin.” Deol wrote on his Facebook page. “No one at the top of their game in any field is going to tell you that it is demeaning, false, and racist.”

He further adds, “You have to see that for yourself. You have to stop buying into the idea that a particular shade is better than others. Unfortunately if you look at matrimonial ads you will see how entrenched in our psyche this belief is. We even use the word ‘dusk’ to describe the color of someones skin!”

He also stated, “While an individual may not be able to change this attitude in his/her community, he/she can at least start with the family.”

Great to see someone finally take a good stand against the “white-washing” of Indian minds.
