Even if you look back at the pre-Pahlaj Nihlani-era, if there’s one thing that has been consistent with the Indian Censor Board, it is their controversial choices when it comes what is to be chopped from movies and what is not.

Aside from the usual censorship on scenes revolving around sex and violence, some of the decisions of the Censor board have been pretty eyebrow-raising, to say the least. Like bleeping the term ‘Gay’ as if it is some type of curse-word, or refusing to certify a movie because it deals with alternate sexualities.

While the subject on artistic liberty and the role of Censor Board is endless and recurrent, there are some scenes and instances involving the board in the past that have managed to grab headlines.
